The final precast concrete unit has been installed by PCE Ltd’s multi-skilled site team at Regal London’s first hotel-led development, a 14-storey aparthotel on Commercial Road in London.

Construction of the superstructure and envelope, including pre-loading fit-out materials and installation of bathroom pods has been completed in 15 weeks. This is possible due to extensive pre-planning and off-site work achieved by employing modern methods of construction.

The façade consists of a series of off-site manufactured brick faced precast concrete sandwich panels which have been designed to not only provide the structural performance but also to achieve the acoustic, thermal and fire performance requirements for the building. To achieve the aesthetic appearance necessary, brick slips have been cast into the external leaf concrete face and the joints are pre-pointed to replicate a traditional brickwork façade with all the quality and programme benefits associated with offsite manufacture.

A long-term lease of the property has been agreed between Regal London and Staycity. The building will be used as a hotel, by Staycity, their second ‘Wilde’ branded hotel in London.

Damien Cartmell, Managing Director of Construction, Regal London, comments:
“We are delighted to announce the successful structural completion of Commercial Road. This is a great achievement by the site team, who’s efficiency enabled them to deliver the structure and façade in a highly impressive timeframe despite challenges and restrictions caused by the COVID19 lockdown.”

“Staycity’s second Wilde offering is set to become a valuable asset for local professionals, the residents of East London and hotel guests alike. This is the latest chapter in Whitechapel’s transformation and as Regal London’s first purely leisure project, it signals a milestone in the company’s strategy to pursue more hotel-led developments in the capital.”

The Wilde hotel will occupy 68,795 sqft over 14-storeys and offers 156-bed apart-hotel accommodation. An ancillary café at ground floor level will provide active frontage onto Commercial Road. There will be a chamfered corner at the junction of Greenfield Road and Commercial Road to maximise footfall and provide an engaging public realm directly outside the site.

The project is due to be completed in 2021.
